One Channel High Definition Video with Sound, 2 Ch Stereo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bien avant que l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat pour ce que l\u2019on nomme le \u00ab fait religieux \u00bb ne se g\u00e9n\u00e9ralise, Marcel Mauss d\u00e9clarait qu\u2019\u00ab il n\u2019y a pas en fait une chose, une essence, appel\u00e9e Religion ; il n\u2019y a que des ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes religieux, plus ou moins agr\u00e9g\u00e9s en des syst\u00e8mes qu\u2019on appelle religions et qui ont une existence historique d\u00e9finie, dans des groupes d\u2019hommes et en des temps d\u00e9termin\u00e9s1 \u00bb. On peut consid\u00e9rer en effet qu\u2019avant d\u2019\u00eatre un ensemble de prescriptions morales, la religion est une agr\u00e9gation de faits et de ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes mat\u00e9riels. La r\u00e9alit\u00e9 de ces derniers nous \u00e9chappe souvent dans un contexte o\u00f9 les positions conservatrices ou r\u00e9actionnaires se multiplient en focalisant l\u2019attention sur l\u2019id\u00e9ologie et les d\u00e9rives communautaires. La religion est pourtant concr\u00e8te, elle se d\u00e9cline en gestes r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9s, en mouvements corporels, en actes codifi\u00e9s. Dans l\u2019installation Abraham Abraham Sarah Sarah pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e au Mus\u00e9e d\u2019art et d\u2019histoire du juda\u00efsme \u00e0 Paris et \u00e0 l\u2019Art Gallery of Alberta, Nira Pereg nous propose une forme d\u2019anthropologie compar\u00e9e de ces gestes automatiques. Les deux vid\u00e9os montr\u00e9es face \u00e0 face d\u00e9crivent des rituels qui prennent place dans l\u2019un des endroits religieux les plus singuliers au monde. The sensitive question of land appropriation in the name of religion is analyzed by means of rituals and material facts. Through her particular use of sound in these two perfectly synchronized videos, Pereg orchestrates the automatic and repeated gestures of two communities, each of which, in turn, territorializes the same place.
